A clear majority of MEPs ask the European Commission a registration and microchipping of pets per unit in Europe
Sulzbach / Ts., February 25, 2016 - Today was voted in the European Parliament plenary in Brussels a project of great importance: a proposal for a resolution supported by almost all political factions with a request for harmonization of microchipping and registering pets. Since most MPs supported this request, the European Commission is expected to discuss the issue. Motion resolution is one of the instruments the European Parliament to take the initiative and ask the Commission to act in a matter unregulated until then.
The main argument is the threat to human and animal health as a result of the illegal trade in young animals, an increasingly popular activity. For reasons of cost, people in charge of multiplying pets, frivolous or even criminal intent, vaccinating and deparazitează chickens, many of whom are already sick, including contagious diseases, when they are sold by the often abroad. As a result of the Lisbon Treaty the EU has no competence for pets, but is responsible for the health of humans and animals, the proposed resolution received a real chance.
"Since 2010 promote such a measure, I worked in a team of experts interdisciplinary Brussels (CAROdog / cat) concept specifically for such a system applicable across Europe," says Philip McCreight, manager of animal welfare organizations TASSO e.V. The concept shows how it could be achieved harmonization at European level, both from the EU and the Member States. "We consider it constructive measures to promote not only legal, but the European Commission to offer them a concrete implementation plan," says Philip McCreight further. Now the efforts related to the implementation of the concept, and here TASSO group of experts working alongside CARO.
In developing the concept, TASSO of business contributed constructively its experience of over 30 years with the highest register of pets in Europe and proved among other things that the measure microchipping and registration of animals is not only useful in terms economic, but became even necessary. "We send annually approx. 60,500 lost animals back to their owners, thus saving costs by 11 million euros incurred by animal shelters, in that these animals are kept in these shelters. If all pets in Germany would be taken at TASSO, we could bring shelters for stray animals savings of up to 27 million per year ", summarizes Philip McCreight financial benefits.
TASSO therefore welcomes the outcome of the vote in the interest of human and animal health, including interest pup sick that are loose too soon from the womb of mothers and transported long distances, mothers chickens that are tortured and forced to reach farmed in adversity, of all lost pets and their masters desperate and, not least, in the interest of all overcrowded animal shelters. "Protecting pets from Europe has today taken a big step forward. Keep fighting, "concludes Philip McCreight.
