The Asociation Registrul Electronic al Animalelor Domestice și de Companie Turda (R.E.A.D.C.), in collaboration with the Association Tasso e.V. Germany, in partnership with the City Hall of Sfântu Gheorghe, Tulcea, have the pleasure to announce the ending of the campaign for microchipping, identification, registration, anti-rabies vaccination, deworming internal and external dogs with owners from the commune Sfântu Gheorghe, the ONLY TOWN in the Danube Delta, Tulcea county, with the entire canine population registered and treated.
By the desire of many owners, the collar was fitted to the optical medallion for recovering dogs, which is not necessary in this village surrounded by water and located 70 km from the capital city of the county of Tulcea.
The event was free for citizens, saving them significant amounts of money. Campaign costs were borne by R.E.A.D.C. Turda Association - Tasso e.V. Germany, the latter being the largest free registry monitoring of pets in the European Community.
The campaign was held from 26 to 29 October 2015. Owners of dogs were informed in advance of the arrival of veterinarians, employees and collaborators R.E.A.D.C. Our team has moved from dwelling housing, thus effecting a complete inventory of all pet owners in the village. In this short period they were microchipped 90% of stray dogs in the village.
Owners who were not found at home will receive these services in the coming weeks.
We encountered many difficulties, I went hard work of convincing the citizens to explain the role and importance of the campaign for citizens' safety and public health.
The whole action was paid and executed by members R.E.A.D.C. Turda and Tasso e.V. Germany, who have been active and direct involvement by the presence in the territory project coordinator Bleidner Marin.
This operating model has been applied successfully for three years in Campia Turzii, Cluj County, which became the first city in Romania where all dogs with master received these services and, in consequence, the rate of abandonment of animals was reduced to 0 (zero) and never recorded no dog bite.
Given that the number of jackals and foxes around the village Sf. Gheorghe - Tulcea is growing, and they can be carriers of rabies vaccination of dogs is particularly important in this isolated village surrounded by the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve area.
Moreover, the campaign supports tourists and locals in common because dogs owner have not been vaccinated for several years, and the risk of infection with rabies (hydrophobia) is very high, constituting a major threat to public health and safety of citizens.
R.E.A.D.C. action in cooperation with Tasso e.V. Germany and the City of St. George Tulcea prevented obligations under the law that requires microchipping and sterilization of animals bred dogs that are not otherwise being liable heavy fines (5,000 lei). Given the precarious state of the majority of owners of dogs, they can not afford the high costs of this action and the result will be massive abandonment. Following this obligation, the campaign R.E.A.D.C., St. George inhabitants of Tulcea benefit from these free services.
Free sterilization will be the next stage of our project which will take place annually, after renovating Point veterinary course, which unfortunately has been affected by fire several years.
Special thanks to Mayor Valentin Sidorencu example of civic responsibility that has supported this project, and hope it will be an example for other mayors aware of the obligation imposed according to animal safety and public health community who voted.
We had a most beautiful surprise when presenting Abecedarului Educativ al Animalelor by R.E.A.D.C. representatives to students from the elementary school in the village, when the enthusiasm of children and love for animals was reflected through active participation, spontaneous discussions concerning their protection and animal health, which has aroused smiles on the faces of women teachers in the hall, which we thank them a lot.
The pleasure of this moment lived among pupils obliges us to contribute to their education and directly supporting the free distribution of this annual ABC Educational all students in the common principle: - Protection through Education!
